Azimuth by Kitu Systems

Communication

Azimuth by Kitu Systems is a communication platform designed to enable coordination at scale between front-of and behind-the-meter devices and control entities.

Azimuth is a multi-purpose, end-to-end, and secure communication platform designed to enable coordination at scale between front-of and behind-the-meter devices and control entities, such as utilities or energy service providers.

The platform consists of different types of software, including embedded software for intelligent edge connectivity, cloud-based software enabling a broad range of services, and scalable communications server software for on-premise or cloud deployment. The three product components are respectively Spark, Convoy and Citadel.

Spark is a range of embedded software including a CSIP-compliant IEEE 2030.5 stack and various applications (e.g. EVSE, SunSpec Modbus, meter gateway).

Convoy is a service platform built on top of and including a communications aggregator. Convoy enables many services and use cases, including DER aggregation, EVSP, smart charging. Depot is a device management component, usually integrated with Convoy.

Citadel is a secure and scalable communications server. It offers a set of APIs to integrate with external network management systems such as a utility DERMS. Citadel allows the definition of controls (which may be dispatched via a Convoy aggregator) and the collection of metrology data based on various topologies and device groupings. Compass is an accompanying graphical user interface to facilitate control creation and topology visualization.

Awesense and Kitu collaborate in order to access complex datasets from millions of modern devices connected to the grid via various communication protocols. These additional datasets are used in order to visualize DER, EVs, provide situational awareness, and enable DERMS, ADMS, and other solutions with data.
