Who we’re looking for.

You have a long history across multiple languages and technologies. You’ve had a key role in taking at least one data-driven project from design/architecture, through implementation and into production. You have hands-on experience with databases, cloud technologies pertaining to enterprise data architectures and software security. You still love to roll up your sleeves and get involved with code. Doing it right is important to you.

Who we are.

Our goal is to transform the planet into one that is fuelled by modern, reliable and clean energy. For over a decade we’ve helped utilities & energy providers optimize and modernize their grid through our cloud-based grid analytics platform.

The problem we’re solving.

The electrical grid was designed for a one-way flow of energy, with generation at the top and consumption at the edges. To enable clean energy on the scale required to address climate change (decarbonization), the grid of tomorrow needs to allow for distributed energy sources (DERs), in the form of clean generation (e.g. solar), storage (e.g. batteries) and electric vehicles, that can reside anywhere in the grid (decentralization). To achieve that, digitalization is key. Many disparate data sources must be brought together and their validity ensured so that smart-grid applications can be built on top. At Awesense, we have built some of these applications ourselves. Our current goal is providing a digital layer via an energy data platform that other application providers, partners, and even energy companies can easily build on top. We want you to help with this as part of our dev team.

What you’ll own.
You will own the technical architecture of our application, defining performance requirements and iteratively improving it as we grow. Currently our stack uses Angular/React, Javascript, Python, Postgres, also some Scala and Spark, all deployable on cloud providers including AWS, Azure, GCP and IBM
You will research and bring relevant new ideas and technologies to the table considering both business and technical practicalities and fostering a culture of best practices
With the support of our CTO, you will design technical solutions to business/product requirements, solving complex problems arising from large datasets of relational, time-series, GIS and graph data
What you’ll assist with.
Development of the backend of the product
Interfacing with devops
Mentoring the technical team and identifying skills, training, and resource gaps
What you’ll learn.

Problems and emerging solutions around grid decarbonization and the future-of-energy analytics sector.

What steps to expect once joining us.
In the first 3-6 months we'll give you time to absorb our domain and learn the nuances of our clients and industry.
In the meantime, you’ll also review our roadmap and assess currently-proposed approaches for delivering it, then recommend alternatives and improvements for functionality, efficiency and scalability
You’ll contribute to code bases both as a way to facilitate deeper understanding of our existing solution and in order to help deliver on first set of key platform milestones to initial set of clients/partners
Within a year, you will have helped scale the platform to more features and more clients/partners
