The Grid Map Publication Tool enables utilities to automate the creation and maintenance of accurate, real-time public grid maps for improved transparency and DER integration.

The Utility Problem

Utilities are under increasing pressure to provide transparent, accessible information about their electric power systems to the public, regulators, and industry partners. Whether for supporting distributed energy resource (DER) growth, meeting policy mandates, or improving customer engagement, publishing accurate grid data has become essential.

However, most utilities still rely on outdated methods such as manually updating static PDFs or disjointed map services. These approaches are time-consuming, prone to errors, and difficult to scale. Without synchronized GIS and operational data, utilities risk sharing outdated or misleading information, undermining public trust and regulatory compliance.

As DER adoption accelerates and grid modernization becomes a national priority, utilities need a scalable, automated solution that ensures up-to-date, validated, and interactive grid visibility. Manual processes and inconsistent standards are no longer sufficient — a new approach is needed to meet the demands of the energy transition.
