TGI f0r the Smart Grid

Awesense's TGI software provides an  accurate understanding of the distribution grid, and helps reduce outages and financial loss due to unknown losses and theft. TGI software offers a comprehensive and systematic approach, using true grid data to:

  • Provide situational awareness of high risk service areas
  • Prioritize services areas that require investigation
  • Identify load and consumption anomalies
  • Identify and prioritize losses in the distribution grid
  • Automate intelligent energy audits
  • Identify and prioritize specific loads for further inspection

MANAGING RISK AND MANAGING PERFORMANCE

Utilities cannot permanently install monitoring devices everywhere that theft or other losses might occur - it is not economically feasible. And purely analytics solutions relying on meter data miss all the in-grid data. TGI solves the problem. TGI applies a rigorous, systematic approach to reducing losses, improving operational efficiency and contributing to the bottom line.

Dashboards provide progress towards goals, and KPIs to C-level executives.

USING ALL THE DATA AVAILABLE

Like most analytics software, TGI software can integrate data from multiple sources to perform its analysis:

  • Substation automation and distribution automation systems (SCADA)
  • Automatic meter reading (AMR) systems
  • Advance metering infrastructure (AMI)
  • Meter data analytics (MDA) systems
  • Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
  • Customer Information Systems (CIS)
  • Asset Management Systems (AMS)

An important advantage of the TGI platform is that you don't need ALL these systems in place to begin finding losses. Our customers that do not yet have AMI are still able to find up to 50% of their losses in about 3 years. The more data TGI has the better, but TGI can delivers results based on in-grid data even in grids with limited investment in smart grid technologies.

ANALYZING RISK

Our methodology, based on the identification, analysis and management of risk has its roots in the finance and insurance sectors. Predicting risk, setting goals, and measuring success drives ongoing steady improvement - in any sector.

TGI divides the grid into statistically relevant segments - accounting for project objectives, number and type of customers per segment and size of area that can be feasibly investigated.

IDENTIFYING THE HIGHEST RISK SEGMENTS OF THE GRID

  • Provide situational awareness of high-risk service areas in the distribution grid using the Risk Advisor
  • Prioritize services areas that require investigation
  • Identify load and consumption anomalies

FOCUSING INVESTIGATIONS ON THOSE SEGMENTS

  • Identify and prioritize losses in the grid
  • Automate intelligent energy audits
  • Identify and prioritize individual service points for detailed investigations
  • We provide operational plans and tools to optimize field investigations
  • Provide an audit trail for future litigation.

Energy balances are automatically calculated throughout the grid and anomalies are highlighted. Analysts can drill down to see further details.

USING THE RESULTS - MACHINE LEARNING

  • Feed results back into the Risk Advisor to make each analysis iteration more effective
  • Enrich the analysis with accurate sampled data

MANAGING PERFORMANCE

  • Methodically improve loss reduction programs
  • Track progress towards goals through role-base dashboards
  • Gain better understanding of true grid operations and develop a risk model that can be incorporated into a wider enterprise risk strategy
