Awesense, Inc., a leader in electrical grid optimization, announced today that release 2.2 of its True Grid Intelligence (TGI) platform is available. TGI is a cloud-based SaaS solution that helps distribution companies detect, quantify and mitigate avoidable losses, recover millions of dollars in revenue, and better optimize grid operations.
Major enhancements to TGI 2.2 generate a continuous, multi-stream data flow that creates a model of grid operations and provides a true and accurate view of energy consumption and other measurements over time. This data flow enables:
Analyzing millions of in-grid and grid-edge data points
Acquiring in-grid data - the data between the distribution substation and the consumers - is a critical element in revealing losses and other problems in the least monitored part of the grid. TGI makes strategic placement recommendations on where to deploy temporary IoT sensors and combines these live line readings with meter data, to create a powerful stream of information and knowledge based on millions of data points.
Wide area grid monitoring and hourly energy balance
TGI 2.2 delivers the first ever cloud-based solution for wide area monitoring of the grid using IoT sensors for hourly energy balance calculations. By monitoring the trends in the hourly data over time, TGI users can quickly and accurately identify losses and related risks to the grid’s operations.
Tracking ongoing changes to grid topology
Maintenance and upgrades to the distribution grid create a dynamic frame of reference for grid optimization and case management. TGI can now track each change and maintain a “living model” of the grid, ensuring a consistent data model whenever the data is analyzed and recorded for future audits or legal challenges.
Additional enhancements include better risk modeling and planning tools, richer content support for revenue assurance investigations, (e.g. photos of suspicious connections), “what-if” planning tools to optimize field investigations and reporting enhancements.
“The fastest, most effective way for a utility to recover millions of dollars is to systematically eliminate avoidable losses and inefficiencies from their grid,” states Mischa Steiner, CEO of Awesense. “Our TGI system defines manageable grid segments within the overall distribution grid and pinpoints trouble spots using risk-based in-grid data analytics. It’s fast; it runs in the cloud and doesn’t require a massive capital investment so utilities see a very quick return on their investment.”
TGI release 2.2 is now live on Awesense cloud servers, available for clients globally.
