Mischa Steiner-Jovic is a co-founder and CEO of Awesense. Mischa brings product development and management experience in the embedded electronics, wireless, and industrial sectors. Prior to starting Awesense, Mischa held various engineering, consulting and project management roles in companies such as ECO Fuel Systems, Newpoint Thermal and the Okanagan Research & Innovation Centre.
Mischa is a frequent speaker and panelist at industry conferences, university programs and government events on the smart grid and the innovation potential of technology to transform business and society. He also represents Awesense as a voting and participating member within the Smart Grid Interoperability Panel (SGIP) led by National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
Mischa holds a degree in electrical engineering from the University of Victoria, and a diploma in telecommunications from the British Columbia Institute of Technology. When he’s not leading Awesense forward Mischa is enjoying being a new dad and still finds (some) time for his other passions; cycling and mountain biking.
Karel joined Awesense in 2012 and is responsible for overseeing company finances, operations and is a key contributor to Awesense’s strategic planning and European market development. Prior to Awesense Karel held increasingly senior roles in one of Europe’s largest utility holding companies, E.ON AG. Karel joined E.ON in 1998 as a management trainee and within a few years had risen to the head of electricity strategy for E.ON Bohemia in the Czech Republic. Karel was a central player in E.ON’s acquisition of three major regional utilities and led their merger into a single entity, becoming the Czech Republic’s second largest utility. To recognize operational and customer efficiencies, Karel then managed the company’s separation into distinct entities: Generation & Transmission and Distribution. During this transition period Karel held the position of Managing Director of E.ON Czech Holdings while his post-separation role was Managing Director of E.ON Servisni.
Karel has held numerous Board of Director roles including Chairman of the Board at Jihomaravska energtika, a.s., Chairman of the Board at Teplarna Kyjov, a.s. and a member of the board at E.ON Ceska republika, s.r.o.
His Supervisory and non-corporate board memberships have included: Supervisory Board Member at Czech Association of Energy Sector Employers, Czech Association of Regulated Electrical Energy Companies, Scientific Board Member at Faculty of Business and Economics at Mendel University in Brno and Supervisory Board member at Prague Gas.
Karel holds a Business degree from FH Würzburg. Karel and his family have moved to Vancouver for this leading role with Awesense.
David Boone is Chief Technology Officer at Awesense Wireless. Prior to co-founding Awesense David spent the previous 12 years leading Information and Technology teams developing and integrating systems performing complex workflow, scheduling and logistics planning. He is a recognized expert in embedded application development, relational database software as well as user-facing software. David brings extensive knowledge of software practices and project management combined with a passion to design and build great products. David and his family live in Vancouver, BC.
Doug brings to Awesense more than 20 years sales and partner development experience in utilities, energy and telecommunications fields. Most recently, Doug was the Vice President, Sales and Marketing at Clevest Solutions Inc., one of North America’s 25 fastest growing technology companies. In addition to leading the sales and marketing teams, Doug successfully led the development of Clevest's extensive partner and channel ecosystem and steered Clevest into markets and segments that allowed it to prosper. At Awesense Doug is responsible for the development, support and growth of Awesense’s global network of resellers and vendor alliances. Doug holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University British Columbia. He serves or has served on boards at UBC, Douglas College and SMEI, coached soccer and volunteered with numerous non-profit organizations. In his spare time Mr. Bunker enjoys watching his sons play soccer, skiing, photography, music and kayaking.
Ethan holds a Ph.D in Engineering Science from Simon Fraser University, and holds a Masters of Applied Science from Shenyang Institute, China, and a Bachelors of Science from Tianjin University, China. Ethan is an accomplished and published engineer and has focused his career in research and development in the areas of wireless sensor networks, autonomous software applications and machine learning, efficiency analysis, and sensor data compression. Ethan brings valuable software and device engineering knowledge to the team at Awesense. Ethan lives with his wife in Vancouver, BC.
Rick is a P.Eng with APEGBC, and has 23 years of experience in research, development, and engineering services. Rick will aid in guidance of all areas of product development. Rick brings his extensive engineering knowledge and project management experience to Awesense. Rick routinely has the lowest energy bills within the Awesense team and lives in British Columbia with his wife and three children.
